and also there is Feedburner

This is Episode 11, we’re recording again through SL voice due to unexpected technical problems (we’re cursed, i swear). We discuss a penis fountain, a giant floating cube, an audiobiographical story-sculpture inside a pink hemisphere and many other strange and wonderous things. Don explains how Jack the Pelican exists because he wants to fall in love and later goes off on formalism.

A few more notes after listening to this podcast again: In this podcast Don says a number of things that Jay takes time to disagree with in this later blog discussion. We talk about Amy’s Creepy Loveletter to AM Radio. We also take note of the huge up-tick in traffic to the BIW sim that has happened since SecondLife.com featured us on their showcase… um late-night avatars out there… not all of us think of you as rats. I know alot of you are out there listening to these podcasts because we can see the steady rise in our stats so let your voice be heard by posting on this blog and telling us what you think about all the crazy nonsense that came out of our mouths during this podcast. Which works would you give a 10 out of 10… or 4 thumbs up… or any of the other rating systems we are using?

Panel includes: Jay Newt, Amy Freelunch, Don Carroll, Boris Kizelshteyn

Artist Discussed: Czarhahn yao, Markus Wirthmann, Selavy Oh, Klink Epsilon, Juria Yoshikawa, Sebastian Standish

NEW! - here are pics of all the work we are talking about

Dude, where’s our podcast?

Posted by Amy Freelunch on May 24th, 2008

Yeah… I know. It’s a little late. Jay and Boris had to go to Chicago to talk to Flashpoint Academy and I think that may have something to do with the hold up.

In the meanwhile…

Relbeep Oh (who, judging from the notecard he left me, attends Flashpoint Academy) left us the following:
flashpoint_001.jpg

It’s a sphere with what I assume is the Flashpoint logo on it. There’s a lot of stuff on the island right now, so to be extra helpful I added those attractive yellow arrows, perezhilton style, so you know what I’m talking about.

I clicked it. It got bigger:

flashpoint_002.jpg

At this point, the sphere itself implored me, “KEEP CLICKING THE FLASHPOINT BULB” - and honestly, who am I to say no to the demands of a strange ball with a logo with on it? So hey. I clicked on it. It got bigger:

flashpoint_003.jpg

This time it got smaller and I neglected to take a picture because really, what was the point. It demanded I keep clicking it and I just walked away.

Jay, Boris, WTF? Is this left over from a demo or something? Relbeep, is this some sort of fantastic metaphor for the global population crisis or the way that sunscreen is responsible for bleaching the coral reef (ok that was totally random) or some other thing that I haven’t thought of yet? What the hell is happening? If I keep clicking the sphere enough times, do I get the podcast????

Please help.

Podcast number Ten is perhaps our funniest effort yet and we talk about and look at at ton of interesting stuff.

Episode 10: We Don’t Need A Tour….. Not.
In this our 10th podcast (Happy 10th podcast to us!) we encounter the most over-documented strawberry pink donut in history, but more importantly we get to go The Garden of Not Possible in Real Life Delights for a special preview at the invitation of Bettina Tizzy (thanks Bettina!). WE Get stuck in a Volcano, and we ride the fire-breathing swan. We also Discuss several interesting artworks including work by BIW newcomer Qarl Fizz. Panel: Amy Freelunch, Jay Newt, Catherine Garnier, Kat2 Kit, Don Carroll, Dan Winkler. Artists discussed: Qarl Fizz, Starax Statosky, Eshi Otawara, Oxoc Oh, Andrek Lowell, Kat2 Kit, Nebulosus Severine

Question: How many MFAs does it take to get off a swan?

THIS JUST IN:

One of the artists who we talk about in the podcast responded thusly:

Qarl Fizz: heh… ok - thoroughly enjoyed the show, i’ll definitely listen again in the future. BUT, you confused all the artists. i’m the creator of the collapsing mannequins but no others. (it seems you mixed-up the museum curator with the artists.) about the mannequins, someone asked “where is 1, 2, and 3?” they live like minotaurs at the center of my 7 mile long maze: http://www.qarl.com/qLab/?p=46 . best, K.

THIS ALSO JUST IN

so you can see what we’re talking about pics of the art in podcast 10

Episode 9: the neologistic semantic showdown spectacular
In this our 9th episode becomes the Jay, DC and Amy show when Kat2 Kit has no headset, Boris is sick and Don can’t make it. We recorded everything on Skype and as Kat2 predicted the sound quality is probably the best we’ve had since the early all-in-one-room-with-one-mic episodes.

SHOW NOTES: We debate the term “Hyperformalism” - Amy asks how much it has to do with the concept of formalism in high-modernist critical theory, DC says not as much as she thinks. We debate the legitimacy of what DC calls “re-mediated” artwork in SL when an artist makes a virtual representation of something from another medium. Jay asks if part of the debate over whether art in SL should look like something from the real world or try to be apart from the real world relates to your attitude toward what you think will come in SL later… that is do artists have in your heads the notion that eventually SL will be entirely immersive, engaging all of our senses in a way that rivals the real world –Amy says that Jay is Gay and BIW is all a sham. “we are nothing but water-bags” “we are meat-monsters” - DC We also all discuss our favorite forms of Booze.

Panel included: Amy Freelunch, Jay Newt, DC Spensely, Kat2 Kit.

Artists Discussed: Cheen Pitney, Jazrupt Naheed, Nebulosus Severine, Selavy Oh, Ichibot Nishi, Juria Yoshikawa, Gwenette Writer.

panel included: Amy Freelunch, Jay Newt, Adonis Bussy, Kat2 Kit, Strawberry Holiday, Four Yip, Arahan Claveau,
Nebulosus Severine

Brooklyn is Watching needs your help.

Posted by Amy Freelunch on April 28th, 2008

Your favorite podcast needs your help. Are you a big corporation with a desire to join the ranks of such industry innovators as Popcha and Tekserve? Or a helpful individual with time and/or money on your hands? If so, read on.

Audio. In case you haven’t noticed, Brooklyn is Watching needs help recording our podcast. I’m not sure what exactly to ask for because I don’t know exactly what we need, but our jerry-rigged version of capturing sound over Second Life doesn’t work on a predictable basis. Can you help? We all got a glimpse of what a decent-sounding podcast sounds like in our last recording, and now it will be so much harder to go back to our deep-breathing, noisy typing days. Can anyone out there help us, either with corporate sponsorship (we will shill for you! all the time!!) that will give us the equipment we need, or with expertise and advice to help us through? Get in touch!!

Meanwhile, remember that hilarious episode of WKRP where Johnny kept getting more and more drunk and, in the process, more and more lucid and together?

Little known fact: your hosts on BiW have the exact same thing happen to them when they drink. Plus they’re funnier and they fight more. So:

Liquor sponsorship. The key to a good podcast is overconsumption of alcohol. We’re all so much more hilarious when we’ve been drinking and you want this to happen. Please note that Amy Freelunch doesn’t drink beer, but will accept just about anything else. Again, we’re talking about RL alcohol, not SL stuff. Have you brewed something especially delicious in your bathtub? Pop it in a bottle, label it, and send it on over. We’re not picky, except for the no beer thing.

Also, spa treatments. Kiehls, Lush, and Bliss really need to step up. Soon we will all be sharing a very small space for an extra-special episode of BiW, and it would be nice if we all smelled yummy. Or really, whatever. I just really need some new shampoo and whatnot and thought this might be a good place to ask for it.
