Instructions for a better managed sim.
1. Bring up -About Land-
2. …and under the -General- tab -Name-, change from ‘Impermanence’ to ‘Brooklyn is Watching’.
3. -Description- Change to:
“Brooklyn is Watching is a hybrid RL / SL art project. When you are here you can be viewed by visitors to the internationally known Brooklyn, NY art gallery “Jack the Pelican Presents”. The gallery is open Thursday – Monday 9AM – ” or an updated message if you wish. (Known and Thursday spelling is incorrect on Pocha)
4. Under the -Objects- tab, set ‘Autoreturn other residents’ objects’ to 10,080 for 1 week. 20,160 for 2 weeks, 43,200 for 30 days. (or whatever you decide)
5. Make a decision how you want the quarter sim to look, prepare build/items.
6. Remove all art etc that shouldn’t be there.
7. Under -Options- tab uncheck ‘Create Objects’ for All Residents.
8. NOTE: Group Name is presently Art Voyerism, shouldn’t this parcel be sold to Brooklyn Is Watching group, so that is the group ‘owning’ that parcel (this is VERY common practice, its usually set to sell at L$1)
9. Layout all BiW items as you wish them to be placed, under the Group Name (see 8.)
10. Have a beer.
11. Under -Options- set a Landing Point ‘Teleport Routing’ basically set this standing where you want people to land when they vist. Or you can just let people land anywhere.
12. Re check Create Objects for All Residents. Ok this is the clever bit, you can uncheck Create Objects for Group, this will stop group members placing art under that tag that prevents the art from being returned for when the autoreturn is set.
13. If you ever need to place items in the future that you need to stay, just toggle Create Objects for Group back on, place the items and then toggle it off once more.
Easy!
Edit: I forgot that under -Options- place a relevant Snapshot for the site/group.
Also under -Options- on the ‘Land Options’ section there is a box to check ‘Show Place in Search’ (under: Arts & Culture) its L$30 per week, you may want to consider setting this, you can have all members of the group pay this for you.

In addition to those points from Dekka, I think BiW desperately needs a forum where people can create new topics and issues can be debated. A blog format is fine, but it’s a one-way street, subjects get lost very quickly in this format and threads go way off-topic (as it has done in this thread) because there isn’t anywhere else to discuss stuff.
A continuing open dialogue between everyone is very important to this project, so please consider a forum.
Oh also, don’t forget to change your ‘Showcase’ Arts & Culture listing with Linden Lab to the new sim location. It is currently listed as Popcha.

Some thoughts on land management:
1) The BiW group doesn’t need to own the parcel, and in fact it might be better if it doesn’t. This way no one but land managers can place anything that won’t be autoreturned.
2) Assuming the parcel stays with the Art Voyeur group, some BiW people (at minimum Jay) should join that group and be given admin powers like being able to return objects, change settings in the options tab, and change media settings. These would be the land managers alluded to above.
3) If you sell land to yourself (as, for instance, with selling the land to BiW group), ALWAYS set it to L$0. This forces you to set it for sale to an individual, and avoids land bot or eager newbie complications.
But most important of all:
4) Change the sim from PG to Mature. If KU can’t accommodate this, then they might be the wrong sponsor. If you thought Selavy Oh being ARd for making falling art was ridiculous, then just wait to see what happens in a PG sim. For instance, if some random person in the RL gallery types ‘fuck’ into Monet’s chat window, Monet could be ARd and suspended. For reals.
Solo, I gave a solution to the autoreturn. Private island NEVER gets bought by bots, because bots are programmed to only buy on Mainland and the Estate Owner can just take back the land at anytime. I actually ran an Estate for over 6 months.
I’ve a feeling that the sim will remain PG until something dramatic happens, then I will be the first in line to say “we told you so”.
We REALLY need a forum.
