Thanks MonCherrie. I doubt I’ll be able to make any videos as I can only have my draw distance at minimum in the sim or I get this really bad stuttering. It would be very difficult to film anything decent with that limitation unfortunately. I hope someone documents it with a machinima though.

AM and I just went over to the sim to take a look at everything and we can’t figure out how it’s working. Did we jump the gun and go too soon? After about half an hour of being lost, I saw maybe three pieces and then my avatar got trapped under the island, so I started again… and then I never found my way back.

I would have felt especially retarded, but then AM was confused too. And he’s pretty smart when it comes to all this SL stuff, right?

Please help.

I definitely did get attacked by Selavy’s work at one point, but that’s not so much what was strange (actually, that was a very familiar feeling!).

Yeah, we weren’t going over there to judge or anything, just more to poke around and see what was up. We saw a welcome sign and by the works that I did see, there was signage… the problem is that I couldn’t find all the work.

I know sometimes I’m difficult and stuff, but I swear I’m not trying to be difficult with this. I couldn’t figure it out on my own, so I IMed AM, who then couldn’t figure it out either.

Also, is it loading especially slowly for some reason? Should I try it on another computer? Or is it because there are so many pieces on one sim?

Amy, there is definitely a performance problem in the sim, I have to turn my draw distance down to absolute minimum or it is unbearably laggy, and my PC is no slouch. Some people won’t notice it, for others, like you and me, it is a struggle. There are a number of possible reasons it is behaving like that, it could be the amount of scripts running, and/or the large amount of prims and textures. Resetting the sim may help, I suggested this to Sage who own the land, not sure if she tried this already.

Try lowering your draw distance, it certainly helps me, but it takes a few minutes to notice the benefit.

Regarding the layout of the art on display, maybe it might be a good idea to draw out some sort of overhead plan or map that visitors can refer to when they arrive. I also think a lot of people will be missing Dekka’s work that is on the sim next door, so a map would help people find that too.

Ok, will try the draw distance thing.

And yes – a map would be perfect. Some kind of checklist or something… usually when you go to a place in SL, it’s ok if you skip over a little thing here or there, but obviously in this case we want to make sure we account for everything.

The sim is very slow to load for me- I find I can’t see stuff even if I’m standing on top of it for several minutes- but with patience, and sometimes a cache flush, things start popping into view.

A map would be very helpful. If you could post it here on the blog outworld (good word Comet!) it would be easier to make a plan for navigation, as well as posting it on the sim with the same texture at various points (maybe on the backs of placards already rezzed?)

Also another suggestion: post a list of works here with slurls so people can choose a destination and TP knowing exactly where they’ll end up since they’ll probably be blind when they first get there.

Maybe visitors could assist by commenting here with slurls to pieces they visit? Just a thought.

Shirley already did that Mab, he went around the sim getting all the SLurl’s for each work and posted them here, but the sim is set so there are no direct tp’s allowed making the landmarks next to useless. That can be changed by the landowner easily enough.
