It’s called a cell shading effect, and you do it like this:

Rez a sphere. Set beginning and end twist both to 180. Set hollow to 90 (alter for different line thickness). Choose ’select texture’ and click on the outer edge of the sphere and make it black. Click on the middle of the sphere and set whatever texture you want. And you’re done.

Alternately, you can do this with two prims, one set to be transparent and 95% hollow, with the inner surface non-transparent and black. Put a similar but smaller prim inside it with a regular texture. This way you can use prim shapes other than spheres. In this technique you change line thickness by resizing the outer, transparent prim.

And now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

Last two podcasts have been really great Jay and crew, I’ve been very busy so not had time to leave any thoughts. Loved all the talk on Autosarcophagy last week, it certainly provoked some lively discussion and varied opinions. I thought the most interesting thing about that piece was the very oppressive sphere floating above the room and it’s relationship to the scene below. To me it was like a dark energy that seemed to be influencing Bunnyken’s behaviour, some unspeakable, lurking omnipresence, not too far removed from the Bob character in Twin Peaks.

Misprint’s ‘Suck Train’ was a lot of fun, on the sim last week when I first heard the voice I thought it was someone there talking to me, it was a while before I figured out it was a sound-loop and that the train was part of it. It did work well once you were in the train, but the posts should maybe have been hidden, they didn’t seem to serve a purpose visually.

There was a piece Penumbra left that seems to have gone now, it’s a shame because it was rather fascinating and I was interested to hear what you thought of it. Maybe she can re-rez it for next week.

Good to see new artists coming to the sim too.

hey:) I re-rezzed my piece, was in a panic, does it suck? LOL, one of those SL nights I guess, was more
distracted by an axe and a yarn doll. Think I put my piece out after they had done the latest podcast. Will take it back at the appropriate time though. I too did like the Suck Train, it didnt suck! Misprint’s voice manipulations reminded me of Laurie Anderson’s “Voice of Authority”.

thanks for your kind discussion of my Marsdog creatures!
It was great fun listening to you guys trying to make sense of it
FYI: the one on it’s back must have assumed this position either by doing one of their rare but frequent backflips some perform – or as you discoverd by physical interaction with an avatar.
with their slow but persistent movements the originally five Marsdogs which were abandoned in a group at the tower’s foot, seem to have managed to disperse in all corners and beyond.
also thanks for providing the testing area for these kinetic sculptures.
