If I were here as a teacher instead of a blogger and talk show host, this would be required reading.

Amy Wilson, aka Amy Freelunch has written the third in her series of articles about SL, Kitsch, and Camp. This last one, about Camp, really does a good job of explaining the term (if you don’t know this term yet- you just watch, you’re going to start using it all the time now because its a concept you’re well aware of but might not have had a word for before) and relating it to Arahan Claveau and Ichibot Nishi’s “Beyond Human” that was at BIW last month. (discussed on podcast 39 and on Podcast 40 because the artists asked us to take a second look because we’d missed the point. Don’t forget everyone, you can always do that, there’s never an “end” to any discussion, especially in a world where anything can always be re-rezed if someone wants to talk about it some more.)
The article she quotes from extensively, Notes on Camp by Susan Sontag was like a revelation to me when I first read it years ago.
Anyway- – I think Amy’s remarks are right on the money, and I will probably have a lot more to say in response after i’ve had some time to digest them a little more but i just wanted to slap this link up here to help spread the word that its there to be read and is well worth reading!
