Podcast regular Patrick Lichty recently published this interesting article about virtual worlds art where he discusses Brooklyn is Watching at some length. I think there are several things that he gets at that are totally on the money– one of them being the emphasis on BIW as a space where art “happens” in a loose Alan Kaprow inspired sense. I’m not sure how to explain it exactly but there is something about the virtual environment that makes this more possible than it would be otherwise. The focus is on discussion and critique because, in my mind that is the big difference between art, and everything else in the world. The best art is really interesting to talk about. This is not, by any stretch a definitive definition, i know.

Anyway– i think its a good article and I’d really like to get the thoughts of all you smart people out there — what do you think of Lichty’s article? Is there anyone he didn’t talk about that you think he should have? If so — post on here about them– why are they important? Is there anyone he talked about that you think wasn’t worth mentioning?

One Response to “Lichty on Synthetic-World Art”

It is an excellent article Jay, I mentioned it on my radio show and Amy’s blog. Patrick gives some good examples to strengthen his observations . Definitely one to bookmark.

Something to say?
