Pavig pointed me to your podcast and so I am responding to your questions on the work. The idea of this is indeed based on a larger body of work which revolves around the idea of placing a soul into a machine and the idea of love programmed into a robot but not returned by the owner. Robot poetry is played when the painting is touched, it is about a mother who’s child is dying, she places his soul within a vessel. The poem goes like this…

Fluttering Heart
Nervous start
I know not what to do
Skin like lace
A child’s face
Eyes of cerulean blue

Your whisper of gears
Bring out my tears
From the shattering of a dream
The confused eyes
Of my love who died
Whom I bound to a machine

Ok one more thing to explain before i talk about the design. The beetles are a concept for me which represent a futuristic method of dealing with how we interact to our environment. As species become extinct we replace them with robotic ones to maintain the food chain so it doesn’t collapse. For example, if the fox became extinct then the rabbit would grow out of control. So we would build a Robofox to keep the rabbits in line ..etc.

Now the composition. The Robot child holds his hand out to the beetles, who now accept him as one of them. But to cam behind the childs hand we see he is not holding his hand out to the beetles in curiosity but rather reaching to his mother in the painting on the back wall. The inferred line points to her from his hand. The praying mantis toy in his lap represents the mothers need to maintain the semblance of a real child with a toy. The child is alone in the environment. The piece uses a reduced palette of warm colours to sooth the viewer and create unity, excepting the blue of the child which further separates him. the underlying message of the poem when found creates the contrast needed to the otherwise warm feel of the composition. Its an emotional cool melancholy to a warm colour palett. Just some ideas I like to play with to see if they work.

So, Bryn has been leaving work at BiW for a while without knowing you were talking about it on the podcast. I suppose it isn’t made very clear on the sim but I wonder what she thought the project was all about before Pavig told her?

Cool Bryn, I’ve seen you building there a couple of times, so I figured you must know. I suggested to Jay he could stream the podcasts on the land while the work is still actually there, then people could walk around and look at the art being discussed.

Would it be possible to have the works out a week and do the podcast a few days into it. You could rez a ball or something beside the chosen pieces with the link to the podcast inside it. Also would bring traffic to the website.
