My favorite piece of the last week was “Submission” by Penumbra Carter which was talked about in the podcast. (the dark, organic-looking submarine-like piece)
For me, the thing which changes it from an object of interest to something fascinating is the sound which comes from it: the sound of underwater bubbles and occasional whale song (its much better than my description). It strongly puts me in mind of the lightless depths of the ocean. That combined with the look of the piece makes it mysterious and haunting. (its best experienced with your view set to midnight) I have a great interest in the deep sea its no surprise I’m strongly attracted to it. I stood next to it for a long while just listening and looking. It was easy to imagine it gliding two or three miles below the surface, going about its mysterious business.
The look of the piece, and the fact that its rideable, leads me to think that the name of it also relates to Dominance & Submission.
