SHOW NOTES:
OK due to some PEBCAK-ery extrodinary, jay’s laptop is bricked so this podcast is totally raw – no intro – no outro just the raw conversation over skype of the large panel that is farily evenly ballanced between SL experts and Contemporary Fine art experts. Panelists: Shirley Marquez, Nebulosis Severine, Jay Van Buren, Don Carroll, patrick lichty, Pavig Lok. Artists discussed:Dekka Raymaker, Harpo Wacco, Ichibot Nishi, Klink Epsilon, Alizarin Goldflake
This podcast has some good back-and-forth about these questions and more
Should there be rules (the R-word!) at BIW
Is Ichibot’s Manifesto ironic or sincere
Should a manifesto be political or can it be personal?….. or (this is what jay thinks can it be personal and by expressing the personal within a form usually supposed to be political be political in its un-politicalness?)
Is Ichibot’s QUAKeification of the sim this week transgressive in an interesting way or is it just too much?
Can items “create their own context” and stand up to anything that BIW’s inherent chaos throws at them??
What do you think of the anonymous attack on Don and his passionate defense of his integrity on this site?
Should we hire international genius level hackers to reduce boring artworks to pixel-dust or put virtual dunce caps over them?

wait… the site isn’t posting my antagonism of don? what’s up with that??
****
Hah – you know, I haven’t been on the BIW site in a while, but I came to download this podcast since Nebs is on it and I was curious to hear her thoughts. And then, I saw the thing about Don and howsmydealing and I thought I’d toss this in:
For Don: I know it’s easy for someone to sit on the outside and say this, but you really can’t take that site to heart. Any artist/critic/curator I know who is at all decent and a grownup knows to take it with a grain of salt – it’s anonymous and there’s an awful lot of stuff that is very clearly bullshit and lies on it. Your defense of yourself goes a really long way and it’s clear that in any situation where the dealer feels the need to respond so thoroughly that there’s (at least) two sides to the story. So I really wouldn’t worry, if that’s possible. You have, from what I’ve always heard, a good reputation.
And to Arahan, with whom I was having the Hypothetical Conversation About Don-as-Boyfriend-Material: I think Don’s 3000 word response kinda makes the point I was trying to make, um, EXACTLY.
{poor don}
