Am I stupid? Has this existed for a long time and I didn’t know it? I searched all over SL for something like this a couple years ago and it didn’t exist so far as i could tell and now its here.
There’s an article over on NWN about the sky pen that explains how it could be useful… but it seems to me it could be a great way to make art too.

We were at Jack the Pelican Presents ( 487 Driggs Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211, USA ) where gallery visitors had been able to see and interact with anything that happens at the above SLURL on the 52 inch monitor.
Document whatever you do, and post the photos or videos to the web and tell us about it here, whatever happens will be chronicled on this blog, and talked about on our weekly podcast.

There are two types of sky pen – prim based which is problematic as it is VERY taxing on a sim, and particle based which is problematic as particles only exist for a limited time. Neither is ideal.
Happily there’s some interesting new LSL functions coming soon (prim position on touch and drag) which may help new artists sketching tools to be developed…. but the prim or particle problem will remain.
I dropped a free “particle breadcrumbs” vendor in the BIW sim for people to play with… they’re yaknow lame and basic, but if anyone wishes to do a bit of sky writing they’re a low lag easy fun thing… basically wear, fly, clap with glee. I’m sure someone clever could make something significantly more artist-tooly.
