A major failing in the art criticism I have been dispensing has been that most SL artwork I have encountered either “really makes me happy” or else “leaves me in pain.” I can see RL art work in a million different shades of grey, but for right now the work of SL art is awfully black and white. It’s not that this isn’t an honest reaction or the way that I really feel, but I need to work on becoming more nuanced than that.

But until I do…

SELAVY OH MADE A BIG HOLE IN OUR ISLAND AND THREW LEE LINDEN IN IT!! Omfg, that is so rad!!!!!

I was going to write something about earth art and Michael Heizer and the Situationists and all that good stuff and then I realized that the really annoying fake-avatar that I have loved to hate is now stuck on the bottom of the ocean. And you know what? That made me really happy.

I think we should throw all the work we don’t like into the pit from now on.

Ha ha ha! That IS a rad idea! I also haven’t heard anyone use RAD since 1978. Selavy persists to surprise. She’s a real art machine. Way to go girl!

amy and juria, thanks for the compliments! but i only used THE SITUATION: someone else removed the green tiles in the corner (i cannot do that, no permissions) so that the sea became visible, and i just added the hole. feel free to throw in anything you wish. that the annoying fake-avatar had been placed below was just coincidence, i didn’t do it.
but i’m very glad that the hole reminded you of earth art and Michael Heizer …

For sure, we should put things we don’t like in the pit. I think that’s hilarious. Then we need a worm hole at the bottom that makes things go to here: http://rhizome.org/editorial/fp/blog.php/493

Also, I want a robot….

Something to say?
